Part L Consultation – SAP 10 Beta Software Available

In parallel with the current Part L consultation, government, accreditation schemes and the BRE are developing a new version of the SAP software to model the effects of the likely changes to Part L compliance assessments in SAP.

The new version of SAP has been called SAP 10.

Our Accreditation Scheme, Elmhurst Energy, are one of the first to produce SAP 10 Beta software and make it available to Accredited Assessors.

Here are just some of the important changes in the SAP 10 Beta software flowing out from the consultation proposals.

The software allows dwellings to be modelled and assessed against the two options of the Part L1A Compliance standards being considered in the Part L consultation process currently going on.

New Compliance Option 1

20% reduction in carbon emissions for an average home compared to the current standard.

New Compliance Option 2

31% reduction in carbon emissions for an average home compared to the current standard.

One of the big differences in SAP 10 compliance compared to the current SAP methodology are four new compliance metrics

Primary energy

Carbon emissions target

Occupier affordability rating

Revised mimimum fabric and services standards

What is changing “under the bonnet” in SAP10?

Carbon factor for electic heating will be lower than that for mains gas

The LABC Accredited Construction Details will no longer be approved for use in SAP thermal bridging calculation.

These and other changes mean that the design of new dwellings will radically change if the proposals are adopted.

Energise can model dwelling designs in SAP 10 to allow clients to have an understanding of how they will perform in SAP 10.
